TODAY TEAMS 1 - 6 ARE HAVING OPEN LOFT - about 600 birds.
This week we had 4 new teams learning to trap, so we took extra days to make sure they had it down very well. Today we had great weather, not too hot and no wind so it was the perfect day to have open loft. 400 of the 600 birds were having open loft for the first time. They did great. Will have open loft again tomorrow, SAT 5/24, then do an inventory on SUN and notify breeders of any missing birds.

Video below compares fees & prizes at the Longhorn verses a no upfront perch fee OLR.
It's not exact, because every OLR charges different fees & has different results regarding the number of birds they lose. But its good food for thought. If you look closely at a specific race your thinking about sending birds to, do some calculations first based on bird returns and fees. You may see that no upfront perch fees doesn't necessarily mean you are saving money.

The Longhorn Classic's excellent bird return percentages makes it so breeders basically spend the same amount per bird in fees as they would with a no upfront perch fee OLR. However with the Longhorn, you'll have more birds go to the final race and the Longhorn will have more prize money.
